Want to be intrigued? Baffled? Annoyed? Enthralled? You'll be all of the above—at once—watching Certified Copy, Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami's return to narrative filmmaking after a decade of experimental work. Actually, this one's an even bigger experiment. It's set in Tuscany but is mostly in French and English. Juliette Binoche plays a gallery owner who takes a drive through the country with a British author (opera star William Shimell, whose speaking voice is even more beautiful) who has written a book about the authenticity of so-called fake artworks. Midway through, you're upended. If you're too literal-minded, you'll leave in a foul mood; if you love having Ping-Pong balls ricocheting around in your mind for days, you'll like this fluid but layered and mysterious work. It's Inception for the art-house crowd.
