The latest in a proud line of Midwestern-émigré jazzmen, the Minneapolis bassist arrived in New York two years ago and has been making waves with his nimble, propulsive compositions. His 2009 debut, The Morning World, was part driving jazz record, part indie-folk fantasia—an elegant mix that recalled the genre-bending of his sometime employers Chicago singer/violinist Andrew Bird and Bad Plus drummer David King. For this gig, he fronts a quartet of top young talent, featuring saxophonist Jason Rigby, drummer Mark Giuliana, and pianist Aaron Parks.
